Blending Nature- Based Learning and the Science of Reading (Structured Literacy)

Rooted in our Founding Principles, our community will take the best of nature based learning and exploration and blend it with the science of reading. If we host ELA classes or activities, we will work to provide many fun exploratory hands-on experiences to develop phonological awareness and reading skills. Often children on the spectrum, which includes dyslexia, are attracted to nature-based and alternative learning environments, such as homeschooling, that allow more movement, flexibility and creativity. However, it's especially important that these students have robust fun early reading learning to help them develop the skills they will need to unlock the code of the English language and be successful readers, spellers, and successful life long learners. Our founder, Nasima, is a dyslexia tutor and understands the critical importance of utilizing the science of reading to give all students the skills they need. However, this is a homeschool co-op and each family will decide how much reading skills they want their children to have at their age and stage. As a community we won’t actively discourage early reading skill development unlike many nature-based programs, such as Waldorf.
